When local resident Bex Ibbott was diagnosed with a Vestibular Schwannoma last year, life changed overnight. After major surgery in November, followed by a course of radiotherapy earlier this year, many would have chosen to focus solely on rest and recovery. But Bex has decided to take on something extraordinary; training for and running a half-marathon to raise funds for Tommy’s, the pregnancy and baby charity.

Documenting her journey on Instagram at @runbexruun, Bex has been sharing the highs and lows of recovery and marathon training with honesty, humour and determination. Within just a week of launching her fundraising page, she surpassed her initial donation goal, an achievement that spurred her on to raise the target even higher.

Her path hasn’t been easy. Post surgery, Bex endured months of double vision, which could only be corrected with an eyepatch or specialist glasses; this meant she was unable to continue her work as a performer. Yet throughout, her resilience and positive outlook have shone through.

Her inspiring story has already been featured on Whatever West Country Radio, and now the local community is rallying behind her. At Carly Press, we are delighted to support Bex by donating cards to help spread the word and promote her fundraising efforts.

“I’ve been incredibly lucky with this diagnosis and treatment so far. If documenting my journey helps someone else in a similar position, I’ll be over the moon.”

– Bex Ibbott

We are delighted to say that despite all of this, Bex has been back on stage working and doing what she loves in her first performance since her major surgery last year.
